Job Description


The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for overseeing Quality Control matters and maintaining Food Safety and Quality Assurance Management Systems to support manufacturing of wholesome and quality food. This position supports the Quality Assurance Manager. 


Job Overview:

  • Fulfill and oversee tasks related to food safety, food quality and regulatory compliance

  • Assist in 3rd party audits and annual SQF audit  

  • Assist in implementing corrective actions and preventive measures related to food safety and food quality non-conformities 

  • Assist in implementing and safeguarding USDA, QC, SQF and Food Safety-related policies and procedures

  • Complete or oversee completion of daily, weekly and monthly monitoring forms  

  • Maintain HACCP Food Safety System 

  • Assist in annual HACCP reassessments and plan verification 

  • Oversee all SSOPs and GMP 

  • Oversee cleaning and housekeeping activities 

  • Verify monthly sanitation schedule 

  • Investigate all food safety and quality-related incidents discovered through customer complaints, production reporting or QC staff 

  • Verify that the Pest-Control Program is followed 

  • Assist in microbiological testing requirements 

  • Oversee and manage Foreign-Material Control Program 

  • Conduct facility audits and inspections  

  • Verify and validate all activities as outlined in SQF code 

  • Assure Specification Program is followed 

  • Assist in company’s Food Safety and Quality training 

  • Assist in investigating product complaints and then document and recommend corrective action and respond to the inquiries 

  • Assist in training QC employees 

  • Serve as plant liaison to USDA personnel  

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in the meat or food processing industry

  • Knowledge of Critical Control Points (CCP’s) in a processing environment 

  • Knowledgeable of requirements from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), Safe Quality Food (SQF), Good Manufacturing Process (GMP), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP), Quality Assurance, and Food Microbiology

  • Able to respond to inquiries and/or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or the company’s stakeholders 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills 

  • Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited  standardization exists

  • Able to carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws

  • Excellent planning, organizational, multi-tasking and project-management skills 

  • Able to work in a cold and loud environment as this position requires working in both an office and plant setting

  • Able to frequently stoop, bend and also stand for long periods of time

  • Able to do repetitive work and have good visual acuity

  • Able to work long hours and weekends when needed

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Animal Science, Meat Science, Biology, or related field 

  • HACCP certification
