Position Summary:
The R&D Chemist will lead technical transfer projects and scale-up new products from lab to production. This role involves blending formulations, monitoring pilot batches, and working closely with Quality and Engineering teams to ensure successful commercialization and process optimization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute lab blending and validate technical transfer formulations.
- Monitor pilot and scale-up batches; troubleshoot process/formula issues with QC and Compounding teams.
- Conduct routine physical testing on lab batches and maintain documentation in the R&D system.
- Manage multiple development projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Analyze production data to improve batch cycle times.
- Draft, review, and approve batch procedures; support pilot runs.
- Reformulate existing products and reverse engineer competitive products.
- Continuously improve technical skills through vendor seminars and training.
Qualifications:
Education:
- BS or MS in Chemistry or related field (Biosciences preferred).
Experience:
- 1–3 years in cosmetic formulation or process development.
- Color matching experience (non-color cosmetics) is a plus.
- OTC or quasi-drug formulation experience is a plus.
Technical Skills:
- Proficient with lab equipment: viscometer, pH meter, FTIR, moisture analyzer.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Communication:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Lift up to 30 lbs; carry a minimum of 25 lbs.
- Stand or walk for an entire 8-hour shift.
- Adequate hearing for loud environments and vision for detailed tasks.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):
- Number of lab validations and pilot batches supported.
- Resolution rate of QC and compounding issues.
- Documented process improvements from data analysis.
