HIRING IMMEDIATELY: LABORATORY SUPERVISOR
Pay: $33.65+ (depending on experience)
Location: Elk Grove Village, IL (onsite)
Position Overview:
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for managing the analytical laboratory within the Metal Finishing facility. This includes supervising and developing laboratory technicians, overseeing internal and external testing, trend analysis, purchasing equipment and chemicals to support laboratory and wastewater operations, and ensuring compliance with environmental requirements in coordination with the Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) team.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Chemical/Laboratory:
- Perform chemical activities and laboratory work related to metal finishing processes.
- Control titration and analytical chemicals and maintain documentation of titrations and related processes.
- Coordinate with EH&S and Wastewater Engineering staff on the disposal, labeling, and arrangement for pickup of hazardous materials and wastes.
- Manage chemical inventory in compliance with AS9100 purchasing requirements.
- Conduct periodic testing and performance evaluations.
- Perform equipment calibration as required for laboratory operations.
- Supervise, hire, and develop laboratory staff, including performance evaluations.
- Review specifications for chemistry compliance and identify deviations.
- Maintain databases of operating tanks to ensure Nadcap compliance.
- Manage the disposition of used chemicals.
- Coordinate outsourced testing for periodic and production needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Process Controls/Validation Testing:
- Support customer and audit requirements by conducting process acceptance and periodic testing within the metal finishing department.
- Collaborate with metal finishing, inspection, and quality management teams to meet requirements.
- Conduct testing such as salt spray, humidity, coating weight, adhesion, conductivity, hydrogen absorption, intergranular attack, hydration, taber abrasion, bend, and embrittlement tests.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
- Strong attention to detail, interpersonal skills, and ability to work with all levels of personnel.
- Strong analytical, data interpretation, and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of chemical and metal finishing processes, procedures, and industry specifications.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance and preparation of reports for federal, state, and local agencies.
- Experience with AA units, analytical balances, pH, ORP, titration, and electronic analytical equipment.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related life sciences field (biochemistry, biology, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of current industry standards and aerospace prime specifications.
- Knowledge of ISO9001, AS9100, and Nadcap standards preferred.
- Strong computer skills, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in English (bilingual in Spanish/English a plus).
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
- Must meet ITAR eligibility requirements, including being a U.S. person as defined by ITAR.
Reporting Structure
- Reports to: Senior Quality Control Manager.
- Works closely with: Metal Finishing Management team for additional guidance.
Work Hours: Start times may vary by department; flexibility to work overtime and additional hours during periods of increased demand is required
