Summary
Provides technical expertise focused on new and existing product development, manufacturing process improvements, and production support. This position involves the design and development of process equipment used in manufacturing and assembly. Examples include assembly machines, jigs, and fixtures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Design robust manufacturing processes using best practices and lean manufacturing concepts to meet quality and efficiency goals.
- Analyze current processes and apply mechanical knowledge to implement modifications or automation.
- Conduct cross-functional design reviews to gather input and incorporate changes.
- Create and maintain CAD models, detailed drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs) from concept to completion.
- Manage project schedules and coordinate cross-functional teams to meet deadlines.
- Write equipment/tooling specifications and oversee their design, construction, installation, and testing.
- Prepare documentation for capital investments and present to leadership for approval.
- Establish manufacturing processes that meet key performance indicators (KPIs) including cost, quality, scrap, cycle time, and efficiency.
- Develop documentation such as specifications, PFMEA, process plans, process flow diagrams (PFDs), work instructions, trial reports, and capacity plans.
- Lead and support continuous improvement and Kaizen activities.
- Implement error-proofing strategies and corrective actions for defect prevention.
- Utilize root cause analysis techniques to investigate and resolve technical issues.
- Ensure all tasks are performed in accordance with safety and environmental regulations.
Qualifications
- Experience in equipment design, build, and integration
- Proficiency in 3D modeling and design software; 3D printing experience a plus
- Strong understanding of machining and manufacturing methods
- Background in mechanical and/or electrical disciplines
- Ability to lead design reviews and develop PFMEAs
- Experience with project management and technical documentation
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methods
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to conduct root cause analysis and apply problem-solving techniques
- Knowledge of ISO/TS quality standards
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
Technical Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, Visio)
- Skilled in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar drafting tools
- Experience with industrial automation hardware and controls preferred
- Strong mathematical background, including trigonometry and calculus
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and procedures
- Occasional physical activity required, including installation and testing of equipment
- Must be able to work in a manufacturing environment and comply with safety protocols
