Job Title: Controls Technical Engineer
Location: Franklin, KY

Our client is a dynamic automotive parts manufacturer located in the heart of Kentucky, powering the automotive industry with expertly crafted interior, exterior, and functional components, serving both Tier 1 and Tier 2 supply chains. Using cutting-edge rubber and plastic technologies, they produce high-performance parts backed by advanced molding, painting, and plating processes.
Job Title: Technical Engineer – Controls
Status: Exempt
Department: Interior/Exterior, Functional Rubber/Plastic, or Fuel Engineering
Reports To: Technical Engineering Manager, GM, or Senior Supervisor
Summary
The Technical Engineer – Controls provides expertise in automation, robotics, and process development to support both new and existing manufacturing programs. This role focuses on the design, programming, and implementation of control systems and supports production efficiency, quality, and safety across assigned departments.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage project timelines and engineering schedules
  • Design and implement control systems using PLCs, HMIs, and robotics
  • Lead equipment/tooling specification, design, and start-up
  • Establish and document manufacturing processes and standards (PFMEA, work instructions, etc.)
  • Perform root cause analysis and continuous improvement activities (e.g., Kaizen)
  • Support capital investment documentation and process optimization
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards (OSHA, EPA) and company best practices
Qualifications
  • BS in Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Advanced PLC programming skills (from scratch); controls circuit design
  • Experience with HMI, IAI, 6-axis robots, network protocols (Ethernet, cc-link)
  • Strong communication, leadership, and project management capabilities
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MS Excel, Visio, and Project
  • Ability to read technical drawings and develop process documentation
